The hum quickly heats to a buzz, the kind with a metallic grate to it that sets teeth on edge. As the buzz fires into a roar, vials dance in the air. Below, the book inches across the workbench in tiny hops. Sparkling liquid sloshes over the curved lip of the wobbling pot.

Falling vials pelt the Keeper as he grabs for the pot to steady it. It lurches out of his reach and he falls. Wrapping his arms around one of the workbench's legs, he fights to stand up.

With a shriek, the workshop doors fling open, yawning into the Planet Pantel's cavernous Master Library. Inside, books shoot off shelves to swirl around and around the massive central shaft, like leaves caught in a tornado. The strong wind rattles, then pops, the roof. It peels off easily and flies up, into a sky already filled with debris and books, so many books.
